Welcome to the eleventh post of Love Thy Library! There is no theme for this week—we’ve got a couple of books off my physical shelf, and one off my Internet Archive shelf.
The scanner at the library was being a little freaky today, so apologies for the streaky scans… I’m sure most of you probably wouldnn’t have even noticed, but now you will <[:o). Oops.
Enjoy and as usual, chime in below with your thoughts, questions, comments, etc! I love it. Until next time, xx!
Title: The Australian Girls’ Book of Crafts, Pets, Sports and Hobbies
Author: Prudence & Anthony Harvey
Year: 1969
Publisher: Longman
Loaned from: My shelf
The elements of this book that excite me include the cover—a piece of art that I want to frame, the girl and cat pasted onto a pink background, the list of topics (so many!!), the ‘send more money’ cipher example, the photograph of the girl and dog demonstrating the stay command, ‘lizards’ and ‘magic’ side-by-sid and the flower and circle screen print graphic.
Title: Chiesa di Riola
Author: Alvar Aalto
Year: 1978
Publisher: Grandi Lavori
Loaned from: My shelf
The elements of this book that excite me include the typography on the cover, the quality of the photographs (dream-like texture), the rose glow from the light, the structure and space itself, the flowers on the podium and the grid of aditional features—beautifully designed and crafted.
Title: Joe Colombo and Italian Design of The Sixties
Author: Joe Colombo
Year: 1988
Publisher: Cambridge (MIT Press)
Loaned from: Internet Archive
The elements of this book that excite me include the back cover, the ‘REF’ stickers with the other administrative goodies, green and red chair colours on one page (so complimentary :-*), the ‘Square Plastic System’ b&w photo featuring the individual parts next to the completed composition and the ‘Multi-chair’!!! I want one of these so bad!
If you choose to share the content from this newsletter, by all means! But please give credit where credit is due :-).
See you in a fortnight!
Love Lucy from Ok Books
I'm Australian, a 70's child, and I'm sure (in fact I know!) I borrowed that book from my local library. I recall the crafts were a bit tricky, the ones I tried looked nothing like the examples in the book! Haha! As to that church, how magnificant and beautiful.
I love Love Thy Library :)
I especially love the designer church, that rose glow is mm mm good!
